Mini (really!) self-care deluxe!
How to love on yourself every day
Self-care comes in many forms. One way I like to think about it is how I would treat my loved ones or my best friends. It’s like going that extra mile for myself.
And it doesn’t have to be complicated or extravagant (of course, it can be if you want to!), but rather those small gestures in everyday life – the ones that make you smile a bit and maybe even go “awww” to yourself.
Today, I’ll share one of the simplest and easiest things ever you can do for yourself, to treat you a little bit more warmly – literally and figurative.
Have a candlelight dinner – with yourself!
(and yes, you can play some romantic music too, if you want to☺)
Okay, here’s the thing; every time you sit down to eat (because you sit down when you eat, right?! No eating by the counter, by the computer or on the go – deal?) – you light yourself a little candle.
Simple, right?!
We all know that peaceful effect a candle has. It immediately creates a certain setting of coziness, calmness and somewhat closeness – a warm, friendly and even caring atmosphere.
It’s like gathering around the campfire – though a very small version of it!? – and even if that gathering is only with yourself, it still evokes the same ambiance; an “it’s good to be here”-feel.
A candle also has the ability to call our attention, to help us be right here and right now – something that for sure benefits us while eating.
So, not only will it create a warm, cozy atmosphere, but also help you digest your food better since that’s a very nice side effect of a calm eating surrounding. Couldn’t be much better, could it?!
Give yourself some daily TLC!
So give yourself some daily TLC and do this every time you sit down to eat – be it breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack time. It’s not only reserved for cozy evenings, têt-a-têt’s with your love, or rainy days. You might be surprised how often it will feel “right”, and yes – even in the middle of the day.
Do this to honor yourself, the food and the time that’s given to the meal – and make it a moment that will nourish both your body and mind and maybe even your soul.?
Oh and yes, of course, you’re more than welcome to light candles when you eat together with other people too – but especially do it when you eat by yourself.
And Mama Maria (me!) just feels the responsibility to add; don’t forget to blow them out before you leave…☝
If you find yourself in a warm climate or hot season, you might not want to add to the heat with a candle – then go for some flowers instead to create a bit of beauty for yourself while eating.
Over to you!
